Weekly Photo Challenge – Home

Wasp Home
Wasps have to have a home too!
This wasps nest has been built on the side of my house and an egg has been laid inside
each little hole which is covered by a white film.
The other holes are empty because the egg has developed into a wasp and left the nest.
WOW Super creative thinking Barb!! Awesome photo! (Very, very brave)
Thanks Jaxie – I can’t believe I got so close to it before running back inside!
hi Barb,
next photo challenge is on:
I’ve chosen a DOG to illustrate SPRING:

I just checked your post out and love it – that’s one
dog!
The new Photo Challenge of ‘Spring’ poses a problem for me – we are in Autumn here in Oz, so I guess I’ll have to think outside the square!
Hi Barb…as long as the wasps stay in their home and leave yours alone!
That’s where I hope they will stay granny!
Today is learning day for me. I did not know much about wasps – now I do. At work outside in this one area we have a huge one of these. Wasps need a home too.
Love this Barb
Thanks Jackie – I wanted to think outside the square on this one!
I had a bad experience as a five-year-old. I was wearing a long-sleeved shirt buttoned at the wrist. A wasp got in the opening and stung me silly before I got the button open and the wasp out of its hidey hold inside my clothing. Fortunately, I was not allergic to wasp stings. But my wrist swelled up and was some interesting colors for a while.
Needless to say, I am terrified of wasps. If one starts flying around me, I end up screaming, “Get it away from me! Kill it! Kill it!” much to husband’s disgust.
Nice, courageous shot, Barb
Sandra, I know exactly how you feel because a similar thing happened to me when I was about 6.
I was playing with my bro and this wasp was buzzing round my face; I was doing a war dance! He shouted at me to sit still and it would go away – so I did. But the thing landed on my ear and I couldn’t stop the reflex action of my shoulder going up to my ear – and it stung my ear! I was literally hopping mad, screaming and bawling my eyes out by this time!
Never took any notice of my brother’s advice ever again!
Thanks Elizabeth. Sorry to bring back a bad memory though!
Wow! You bring back a memory… We had a nasty wasp-nest when we first moved into our home and had to get a specialist to remove it… OMG! Great choice…
Elizabeth
I’ll ask my cat, if she likes wasps …
I think I know what her answer would be . . .!
I have some of these wasp nests on the outside of my house too. I try to stay away as I am allergic to their sting
I got stung by a wasp when I was a kid and I’ve never forgotten the experience; I hate wasps.
That’s an awfully big nest! I’d hate to see how big the wasps are!! Good luck!
The wasps are pretty big!
What an unusual photo….you would think that if that nest was outside your front door ,you would want to get rid of it,but then its a home for our wasps………
Paul, the nest is on a window on the side of the house, not the front door! Are you shamed into doing something about it now that you have read the comments?
I prefer hornets, wasps, and yellow jackets to build their nests a safe distance from my patio.
Getting stung is no fun.
Thanks, Barb.
You wouldn’t like it in Oz then – they build their nests all round the house regularly; we are forever getting rid of them but this one got away!
EEK! I’m afraid I’d be racing to get rid of that home being allergic to stings.
Well, hopefully hubby will now feel shamed enough into doing something about it!
Oh no, they creep me out! I’m always the girl running and screaming
Yup, that’s usually me too, running and screaming to get away from them, so you will appreciate my bravery in getting so close to take this shot!
Amazing.. love the wasp hive…
Thanks Arva – pretty nest, but not so if you get stung!
I love that you can see the one wasp flying away!! Great shot!!
Thanks Princess! Took me a while to get the shot – I hate wasps!
Very creative take on the “Home” challenge! No wasp nest ever makes it past the initial mud tunnel on my house, though it is fascinating to watch how fast a single wasp can create the foundation. We’ve had some nasty experiences with angry wasps, so we just don’t let them build their condos here anymore!
I hate wasps and asked hubby to get rid of the nest before it got too big; didn’t work, did it? I hope when he reads this, that it will prick his conscience into doing something about it now!
great shot of nest. I had actually wondered if someone would post a picture of a beehive for this theme. Didn’t think of wasps! good for you.
walk in beauty.
Well, it was right there under my nose at home (or above my nose!), so once I plucked up enough courage I got the shot and ran!
I’ve a serious dislikes for wasps but I guess they need a home too! Those do look quite large too, scary!
Me too, I had to work up some courage to get this close to the nest!
Wasps euggh. Great picture, though.
My feelings exactly Tilly!
What a great take on this topic, Barb!
Thanks Rebekah – I wanted to think outside the square on thd ‘home’ challenge. Think I did it?
Hi Barb, nice shot and take on the theme “Home”.
I find that wasps and bees will make their home just about anywhere.
Thanks Rose! I hate wasps and it took me a week to conjure up the courage to get this shot!
